Abstract: This work's main goal is to consider the speech-language therapy function, according to Donald Wood Winnicott's theoretical assumptions. This paper intends to help the speech-language therapist put himself in a position which allows taking into consideration, when doing his job, the patient’s singularity and particularities. This should also be considered when using specific technical literature, which means presenting it so that the patient may appropriate it in a creative way. That way, the speech therapy setting becomes not only a symptom suppression space, but also – and especially – a promoter of the patient’s happening as a total individual. Based on tasks performed by the mother in a relationship with her baby, which enable the baby’s happening and humanizing. Winnicott points out holding which will foster integration, object presentation which enables the experience of realization, and handling responsible for inserting the psyche into the body, as guides for human relations, including the therapeutical relation. As intertwined and unfinished elements, since a human bring never finishes his own constitution, these tasks may enable the human happening, and therefore they could guide the speech-language therapy setting. Aiming at investigating this possibility, we carried out a case study of a patient with voice disorder. ln fact, we observed that, besides voice improvement, she has flourished as an individual, because the speech-language therapy procedure, based on the tasks, which have been mentioned, focused on the patient's unique needs

Abstract: Introduction: The increase in the number of elderly people in the world population is notable. During the aging process, new difficulties arise, such as: decline in auditory and cognitive skills, communication difficulties, social isolation, among others. Much has been shown about the strong relationship between hearing loss and cognitive decline. Among the main consequences of this association are the difficulties in understanding speech conversations in noisy environments and increasing listening effort. Objective: to investigate auditory and cognitive aspects in elderly people with hearing impairment. Method: 56 elderly people who started the process of selection and adaptation of hearing aids (HA) in a highly complex service were applied. A survey was carried out on the day of HA adaptation and performed the following procedures: assessment of speech recognition in noise (with and without the new HA), collection of socioeconomic data, cognitive screening (CASI-S) and subjective assessment of listening effort. Results: The majority (67.9%) of the participants had a score greater than or equal to 23 in the cognitive screening. There is evidence that the average sound level of speech recognition in noise (SRN) with HA is lower than without HA. Through various regression models, it is estimated that the average benefit increases when the better ear average (BEA) increases, the average sound level of SNR without HA decreases when the total CASI score increases and the average sound level of SNR without HA increases when the BEA value increases and when age increases. Conclusion: With advancing age, the worst overall performance and isolated items of the cognitive screening test, which can mean a worse performance in the speech recognition test in noise. However, the use of the HA allows a better performance in the speech recognition test in noise

Abstract: Introduction: The hearing assessment in the first months of life of the child has importance due to the need of early intervention, facilitating the development of the language of those with hearing loss. In this stage, difficulties may occur that lead to evasion or delay in the conclusion of audiological evaluations. Objective: To study the process and audiological diagnosis of children who failed in the Newborn Hearing Screening (NHS). Method: Quantitative, descriptive, observational, retrospective study, with document analysis of the medical records of 51 children, who failed in NHS in maternity hospitals under management of the Municipality of São Paulo, and who were referred to the Centro Audição na Criança - CeAC (DERDIC /PUC-SP) for hearing assessment, between January and June 2021. The children who completed, evaded, or remained in diagnosis were identified. Contact attempts were made by phone or Whatsapp, with the guardians of the children who escaped to identify the reason for the evasion. These data were transcribed in an Excel spreadsheet for descriptive analysis. Results: The rate of attendance at diagnosis was 75% and 25% were found between maternity and referral for assessment at the reference center. Of those who started the assessment, 63.16% finished, half being completed by three months of life. Evasion during the assessment process accounted for 31.58%. The contact attempt was successful in 76% of the children who evaded, identifying the most frequent reasons: child’s illness, distance from home and the center, parents' work. The delay in the conclusion of the assessment was due to aspects related to the child’s health, number of appointments, scheduling logistics, difficulty in natural sleep during evaluations and absences. Conclusion: The data show that the attendance to the hearing assessment was below the recommended, with the evasion between the maternity hospital and the arrival in the assessment and in the assessment process well present in the research, but the contact with these families proved successful. Factors related to the health and natural sleep of the child logistic service and family problems can cause evasion or delay in the assessment conclusion

Abstract: Introduction: The diagnosis of hearing loss in children performed in the first months of life, with intervention, can be considered determining factors for the development of auditory skills and early language. The effective use and quality of the electronic device, speech therapy and family expectations and their implication with the important factors for the child's prediction, as well as aspects related to socioeconomic, cultural and academic. The Health Department organizes the flow of referral of babies and children with the hearing consultation so that the timely service with the beginning of the speech therapy intervention, and the adherence to its stages. However, intercurrences can happen during this process, hindering the child's development. Objective: The purpose of this research was to analyze the process of diagnosis and intervention of children with permanent hearing loss from a reference service in hearing health, identifying their barriers. Method: The research was carried out using data from medical records and scheduling data from children with hearing impairment diagnosed in a Specialized Rehabilitation Center. This study has a quantitative/qualitative descriptive character. The subjects were characterized from the demographic and audiological point of view. In the analysis, they were identified as diagnoses, between the process of diagnosis and intervention and as characteristics and follow-up of patients, in addition to audiological care. Results: Most of the subjects attended more than 75% of the appointments for the audiological diagnosis, but just over 40% of the families attended the sessions for the selection of hearing aids and speech therapy. The vast majority returned spontaneously to the service (84.09%), however, less than 30% attended within a time interval considered adequate for children, less than six months. A relationship was observed with the SII of the best ear, being scheduled for failure in universal screening, the grade of hearing loss and distance between the region of residence and the service in the time interval between the beginning of the therapy and the first follow-up. Conclusion: The results showed variability between subjects, and it was not possible to find statistical significance in the analysis performed. However, the analysis model of the three moments of the intervention process allowed us to find statistical trends that can help to improve the hearing health service for the population
