O tradicional e o moderno: faces da cultura popular no futebol brasileiro

Abstract

The study analyses the manifestations of Brazilian Popular Culture inside professional Soccer, played in Brazil. The researches are connected to the analysis of information obtained with the key players in soccer game (actual players, directors, technicians and joumalists) and teams that dispute regional and national contests. lntroduces the discussion around the characteristics proposed by A. Guttman based on Max Weber's theory. To counterpose the rationality of scientific knowledge that is little by little being introduced in the Brazilian Soccer. The study searches in George Balandier, theoretical supports that delimit anthropological looks, when the rituaIs of faith, creed and superstition present in the daily life of Brazilian population emerge in the players of soccer game, being the rationality insufficient to explain manifestations that happen in this space. It tries to intr oduce a discussion around the formation of soccer clubs identifying two geographical contexts: the Southem Region, in the beginning of the 20th century until mid 1930's and the inner State of São Paulo, in the formation of clubs, in the beginning of the 2 oth century. ln both moments, the study tried to approach and identify popular contexts in the formation of soccer clubs, introducing a discussion of cultural resistance in the south and the maintenance of a family of mutual feelings in the formation of clubs in the inner state of São Paulo. As it is already a tradition, in soccer, the study points out the identification of creeds, faith, superstitions and speeches of ex soccer players that signalize a possible retum to soccer without the superlative of mo demity
